Production Diary

27/01/2014
Today we looked at the adaptation of the script, with new dialogue and edited scenes. We discussed as a group which parts would suit our production and which wouldn't. For instance, we took out some cultural references which the audience wouldn't understand if they watched the film. We have done talent releases, risk assessments and location releases, whilst looking at some soundtracks which would fit well into our film. We have also completed a full production schedule which will help us plan the days we are filming and how much time we have to edit aswell. We have discussed our strengths such as acting, editing, filming and directing/writing and allocated each person a character and/or a job they have to do within our production. We have made sure everyone gets a fair chance to edit and a fair chance to be in the production so we are all working together as a group. Tomorrow we hope to achieve to storyboard the ending scene and to produce a shot list.

Today we worked on a rough shot list, deciding what each scene would have in it and what kind of camera techniques we'd use. We have 5 people in our group and 5 scenes which worked out nicely. We managed to share out the work equally, doing a scene each with every individual shot and a description of each with the camera movement and character movement. This was as successful task for all of us to do.

We finished off the storyboards, making sure everything was done correctly. As a group we made the final decisions and looked over each others storyboards to see if they were detailed and finished. Josh then made sure the script was okay and we re-done all the changes. And I printed off the location recce, making sure all the photos were okay.

Today we have finished off the last few shots on each of the storyboards and made sure they are good. We have taken a few test shots to see the lighting and the quality of production we are producing. As we have finished off all of the pre production we are going to do more test shoots before we start shooting the actual production on Monday.

Today we finished filming scene 2. We finished off the master shot and filmed all of the extreme close ups and medium shots of the characters. This went well and we were going to plan on our production schedule until we saved all the footage onto the macs and we realised majority of our master shots are out of focus. We think that the focus was either focused behind Antony instead of on him, or the camera is at fault. During the filming we made sure we focused the shots correctly however this has set us back a little bit. We will carry on filming with the production schedule and finish filming scene 2 next week. Because Megan isn't here for Ellie's lesson we cannot use her camera again to re shoot the footage immediately and also because the location is unavailable.

Today we filmed the footage again. It went smoothly and we managed to get it done with no interruptions, we used a college camera and stayed focused on the ISO and aperture to get the right quality video that we needed.

10/02/2014
We filmed Scene 1 today and it went well until we realised when putting the footage on the mac's that the ISO was too high, causing it to make up for the light that wasn't coming in, so it was grainy.

12/02/2014
Today we filmed Scene 1 again and the footage was superb. We thought about every close up and master shot. And made sure the ISO was down to 1600 which made us be in focus and the shallow depth of field worked very well.

24/02/2014
Today we filmed the grabbing the gun scene. We made sure in every shot, the ISO was correct. This worked out very well and the shots we did get looked good and not grainy. We had a productive day in terms of not messing up dialogue and we worked fast on each shot.

25/02/2014
Today we filmed the shooting of the gun and the fake blood. We left this until last because the blood is messy and we didn't want it in any of the other shots if we had done it first. This day was productive and managed to get all the shots we needed and the footage wasn't grainy at all.
