E sting Evaluation

I will be creating a review of my E sting and analyzing the feedback I have gotten from questionnaires I have sent out to other people.

Quantitative Data

What is your gender?
I asked what gender the people answering the questionnaire were because this would give me an idea of what kind of target audience we would have for our E sting. Majority of our audience were male meaning that the most likely target audience are going to be males.

What is your age?
Age is a good example to narrow down our target audience, we thought it was a good idea to see what age range we would be aiming this E sting at. All 7 people were in the range of 16-18.

Can you see this being E4?
We asked this particular question because we wanted to find out if the quality of this E sting was up to standards of being on TV. This would let us find out if the technical qualities were good and if the E sting flowed well.

What genre do you think this E sting is?
We asked this question so we understand what the audience would the genre would be. We found out that majority of people said it was comedy and the 2nd majority said it was action. However this is a little unhelpful to us because our audience thought out E sting was 6 other genres rather than just 1 or 2. We should have made our genre a little more prominent throughout the E sting so our audience would pick up on 1 genre. We tried to make our E sting comedy and action which is what our audience picked up on the most, and we used an  upbeat soundtrack to fit in with our animation to try and show this more.

Do you like this style of animation?
To see if our target audience liked our animation, we asked what style they liked. Ours was stop-motion live-action as oppose to claymation. We found that 60% of our audience liked our style of animation. This is helpful information to us because we can then know if overall they enjoyed our animation. We felt like this was a successful question to ask.

Qualitative Data

We asked 3 questions which would help us gain feedback about our video. We asked questions about the weaker aspects of our esting, so then we could go away and improve on the bits we thought were a little off as well.

Is there a good development of character? Could you suggest any improvements?
We were unsure that we had made our character develop throughout the animation, so we asked an open question to get some ideas about how to improve our character. I feel like we could have developed the character more within the time. A quote from this is "I think the bear character is good but I think that you could have improved the ending with the E4 man." I agree with this statement and it is one of the answers which has given me an idea of what can actually be improved. Given the nature of the bear, we put soup cans in the legs and tied a bit of pink string on his back to make sure he was stable. However, for the E4 man we could not make any adjustments as another group used the same character as us and since it was made out of clay, it was harder to move him in the way that would make the video smoother.

Does the video flow? If not, could you suggest any improvements?
We asked this question to cover all technical qualities and allow people to voice their own opinions. We felt like this would help us in terms of evaluating and in case we decide to change our E Sting. From this I can see that the flow of my video was mediocre. It was a broad range of opinions, ranging from being smooth to being very bad. "It was very smooth, especially the part where the case swings round and the E4 logo falls out", "I think you could improve on the fluidity, it is a little jerky but overall it's okay", "No it does not flow..". This helps us slightly as majority said we could improve with the smoothness of the video. I agree with this because I felt that our video could have been a little bit better.

Overall, I think our animation was good. We did have a lot of constraints that stopped us from producing the best advert that we could have produced. These constraints are as follow: Financial, physical, location.

  • Financial: Although we were financially covered with a budget from the college, the pink bear was the best that we could find that could be a potential character that could stand up and walk around. We didn't want a character to slide around because we felt it would not show off our skills as film-makers if we are not using our ability to use the things around us. That being said, we worked with the bear throughout the filming and we made a lot of technical changes with it to make it walk and such. It was a hard task, but investing in a better character or even a better bear might have changed our video from being good to being better.
  • Physical: This is related to the financial situation as the bear could not move as smooth as we hoped it to. This is due to the shape of the bear and it was hard to physically manoeuvre him which is largely the criticism we got for the ident. However, we worked to the best of our ability with the bear and the video turned out to be good.
  • Location: Where we filmed was critical. Due to the narrative of our ident, we concluded we needed somewhere with lighting and a backdrop that would cover all these areas. We wanted to make it look 'spy'ish. And therefore having those lights put in place with a dark backdrop could emphasise the mis-en-scene we wanted. Granted, we could've worked with it a little more to make it professional, however I think we did do well for the location we were in and we successfully created the spy look we wanted.
