History of Animation (Part 3)

In this section I am going to find examples of where stop motion is used in everyday media. And about the styles of these. I will talking about the formats of these from television to music videos.

Who is stop motion made for?
___________________

In my opinion stop motion is made for a younger audience because the idea of using clay to create characters is what young children do because of the shapes they can learn to make and the enjoyment of making things with their imagination. For example, Nickelodeon use stop motion idents and their audience are targeted at younger children as most of their programmes are cartoons/animation, so it would make sense to use stop motion animation to create a small ident. However some stop motion animation can be quite dark and creepy which would probably be used for an older auidence as it would not be suitable for a younger audience. Overall, I think stop motion is mainly for a younger auidence because of the fun and enjoyment a child can have both watching and making them but if you use it in a different kind of  way you could create an atmosphere for an older audience. It just depends what you do with it.

What does the future hold for stop motion animation?

I think hand drawn stop motion animation may become out dated apart from the people who are interested in it as a hobby or just interested in it. This might be a select few of the older generation as they are the most likely to remember the history of how animation first came around. Nowadays, technology has changed the way we make animation, whether it's hand drawn and then put onto screen or drawn using a computer; it's shaped the meaning on animation and how think about it in general.

  1. Sav,

For each of these texts that you have found you need to say what type of animation is used and who you think each one is aimed at.
